Under 16 Development Programme 2025

What is the programme?

Tauranga Hockey will deliver a 7-week tiered Under-16 Development Programme in Term 1; players will be placed in groups of similar ability based on coach feedback from the 2024 programmes and campaigns. These sessions are open to all players aspiring to play representative hockey.

The Tuesday sessions will focus on fundamental skills, principles of play, decision-making, and small gameplay. The Friday sessions, known as “Free Play Friday,” will be informal and emphasize fun and creativity, encouraging players to engage in pick-up games or explore activities that challenge their skills. This programme is an excellent preparation for the upcoming school, club, and representative hockey seasons.

Who can join?

You must be in Year 9, 10, or 11 at school to participate. Note: Tuesday training is for field players only. Goalkeepers are encouraged to join the Free Play Friday sessions and have a dedicated development programme available under the Goalkeeper Development tab.

When?

The programme runs from February 4 to March 21, 2025, on the following dates:

• Tuesdays: February 4, 11, 18, 25, March 4, 11, 18 (4:15–5:30 PM)
• Fridays: February 7, 13, 21, 28, March 7, 14, 21 (4:00–5:00 PM)

Cost:

$155 includes entry to the Beyond-the-field: Pillars of Performance workshops that will be announced soon.
